Cross the railway from the CBD and you're there. This is Perth's classic bohemian pocket: William and James Street pack in bars, clubs, karaoke and most of the city's Asian food. By day it's Chinatown and the Perth Cultural Centre; on a Friday night it's the only part of Perth with a queue at the door.
Good for
- A night out without a car
- Eating cheap and well at any hour
- Hospitality work
Watch out
Weekend noise until dawn, and the area has a reputation for trouble late at night — worth walking with company.

These are impressions, not statistics: one person, a few months, a city of two million. Suburbs change street by street — use this to know what to go and look at, then go and look.
